How We Ranked the States

Rankings are based on four factors drawn from FundCapa's own funding data: (1) Lending Score — composite of approval rate, average funded amount, and funding speed for that state; (2) Business Climate — regulatory environment, small business density, and growth rate; (3) Industry Diversity — number of qualifying industries actively funded; (4) Avg Funded Amount — average loan/advance size for approved applications. Filter by region or industry to find the best fit for your business type.

Methodology

The FundCapa State Business Loan Rankings are derived from proprietary application and funding data collected across 15,000+ funded businesses. The Lending Score (0–100) is a composite index weighted as follows: Approval Rate (35%), Average Funded Amount relative to national median (30%), Average Time to Fund (20%), and Industry Diversity of approved applications (15%). Business Climate scores are sourced from SBA Small Business Profile data, U.S. Census Bureau Statistics of U.S. Businesses, and the Tax Foundation's Business Tax Climate Index.

Rankings reflect alternative lending market conditions, not traditional bank lending. States with lower traditional banking penetration often rank higher here because alternative lending fills a larger gap. This ranking should not be interpreted as a measure of overall business quality or economic health — only of alternative lending market activity and accessibility.
